Children’s Aikido: All the Info

It’s almost that time! Children’s Aikido classes at Falls Road Aikido are about to start, and there’s no better time to get your kids into something new that will engage both their bodies and their minds! When do classes happen? Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:00 P.M. until 5:45, starting Wednesday, March 1st, 2017! First classes are always free at Falls Road Aikido.

What ages are allowed? 6 to 11-13! The preteen years are the perfect time to introduce a child to martial arts. Please note that parents are asked to be present during classes, but are absolutely welcome to take part in activities on the mat.

What will the children do? All classes start with an efficient warm-up that helps awaken the necessary muscles and get the kids in the right headspace for Aikido! They’ll work on rolling and falling safely (which are necessary acts to help protect the body in the practice of Aikido), learn how to perform basic techniques, and even engage in active physical games that reinforce the tenets and principles of Aikido.

Who’s teaching the classes? Sempai Mikey, as the kids will come to know him, is one of the advanced adult students at Falls Road Aikido. He loves working with kids and has a passion for teaching and informing. Other adult students will be present to help safely guide children throughout the course of practice.

What should my child know before they start? Children don’t need to have any prior martial arts experience! Aikido is a great art for beginners. What they can expect to learn, though, goes beyond just the physical benefits of Aikido. They’ll learn about self-discipline on the mat, how to disengage from scary or frightening situations, how to stay composed, and most importantly, their responsibility as budding martial artists. Aikido, as an art of peace and calm, is one that should only ever be practiced in the dojo with other willing people.

How much do the children’s classes cost? There are several different pricing options to fit your budget and needs. Right now, we’re running a special for the first month: $125 covers the first month’s classes and fees as well as a uniform (gi), which is a $65 value! Otherwise:
$97.00/mo covers two classes weekly (that’s between 8 and 10 classes a month!);

$50.00/mo covers one class weekly (up to five classes a month!);

Parents may also pay $15.00 per session instead of the monthly fee if they prefer!

If bought separately, children’s uniforms are $65 dollars and adult uniforms are $85.

We look forward to teaching your child!

What Members of Falls Road Aikido Have to Say:

"My training in Kinokawa Aikido has been one of the most influential experiences of my life. Real and honest budo training has allowed me to become thoughtfully calm and patient in my everyday experiences. Effortless and unexpected power are now regular companions of my being. It is a true honor to share this amazing martial art with the people who choose to show up on the mat week after week and year after year. I welcome anyone who would like to live with more grace to stop by roll around on the mat with us."
